I'm a relative newb to JavaScript. I have bought books and had several runs at learning it over the past 10 years. This course accelerated my understand of concepts that had confused me for years.......and it did it in days! I really enjoyed this course and found Mark's teaching top notch. His explanations and teachings throughout the chapters stayed consistent and very helpful. I would highly recommend this course to anyone starting out in front-end development. What I really want is a follow-up to this course where Mark dives into more advanced and powerful uses within JS. This was a solid introduction to JavaScript. I've tried to learn from just text (ie., w3Schools etc) in the past but it just didn't take. A previous reviewer mentioned YouTube or whatever but the fact is that there is a major diference between videos that just anybody who knows javascript is putting out and videos that are assembled by a profesional trainer that are supplemented with thoughtful labs and exercise. If you know HTML and you want to learn JavaScript and if video is the right delivery method for you (it is for me) then this is the right course.

I purchased this course one day ago and I am only on chapter 4, but I am really enjoying it. I have a little bit of HTML and PHP knowledge, but am a total newbie to Javascript. The videos are clear and the exercises are interesting. I will update this as I progress. UPDATE...THROUGH CHAPTER 8 I just finished chapter 8 of 10 and I have really learned a lot by taking this course. I think I am hooked on Udemy and Mark's classes. Everything I knew about programming was by playing around with PHP in WordPress and asking questions on Stackoverflow & Stackexchange. Even though this class is an introduction to Javascript it has given me a much better understanding programming in general which has helped me understand the way PHP works in WordPress. I have already started putting this to use in my business Getridofit.com and I can't wait to learn more. I will do a final update when I finish the course.

Mark is truly amazing! I don't think that I have worked with a more skilled and polished trainer/presenter. His ability to make the difficult seem easy and the complex seem simple is unmatched by anyone else that I have had the opportunity to work with. He is a star among experts and it shows on screen. It was an absolute blessing to have Mark as my instructor for a Web Development Professional bootcamp course at Netcom in midtown Manhattan in March 2011. Having been laidoff over a year, I earned a federal grant to attend this class. My objective/expectation was to learn more HTML but what I learned was so much more comprehensive. Despite a lot of the material being totally new and foreign to me, Mark was instrumental in making sure I learned as much as possible. His humor helped buffer the break-neck speed of this crash course. He patiently outlined various aspects of web design and programming and guided the pace perfectly. He has both a knack at teaching what he knows as well as a natural charm and affable approach that makes you feel at once comfortable and receptive and able. In short, you know he knows his stuff and you believe you can learn it too. If you want to learn while having a good time, Mark's your man. He has a gift of perceptively knowing the best way to gear the material to each student for maximum knowledge and retention. I can't believe how much I learned in just one week but I am equally pleased at how much fun I had doing it. His focus and care for his students is impressive as his knowledge of the programming side, which for me was new territory. I would recommend Mark for any class, anytime, at any technical level.
